  1. Beautiful Creatures<\/em> by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl: a Gothic fantasy set in the American South. I decided to read this book after watching (and enjoying) the movie that was based on it.<\/li>\n
  2. The Know-It-All<\/em> by A.J. Jacobs: a memoir about the author’s attempt to read the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica<\/em> from A to Z. I have a fondness for books whose subjects are arranged in alphabetical order.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Looking ahead, I doubt that I’ll reach my goal of reading 52 books for the year. I’ve finished 39 so far, though, and that’s more than I read in any one of the last three years. So, I’m just going to call this year’s number (whatever it turns out to be) an improvement and leave it at that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
