There are so many books to enjoy for the first time and so many old friends to revisit. I don’t know if I’d be satisfied if I had read twice as many!

Looking over the grades I gave the books of 2008, I’m glad to see there were plenty of A’s. Which one gets the honor of being called my favorite book of 2008? That’s easy. My favorite was The Sun in the Morning by M.M. Kaye. I gave a copy of it to my friend for Christmas. I hope she will find it as enthralling as I did.

I generally prefer fiction over nonfiction, so it seems odd to me that a nonfiction book should be my favorite for the year. Even odder still is that my second favorite is also a nonfiction book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. Both books were interesting and educational. They reminded me that nonfiction doesn’t have to be dull, which is good lesson to carry into the new year. I will try to read more nonfiction in 2009.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and reading-filled 2009,

Chick

I did a lot of reading in 2008, an average of one book per week, but still I wish I could have done more.
