Day 228: Animals and Zombies

Last night I finished reading Doctor Dolittle’s Circus by Hugh Lofting. In this episode of the series, the Doctor needs to make some quick cash to pay off a debt, so he and his animal friends hatch a plan to join the circus, with his newest friend, the two-headed Pushmi-Pullyu, as the money-making attraction. But though the Doctor’s animal friends are his willing allies, the other animals at the circus are being held in captivity, and the Doctor will have to do something about that! This story was exactly the kind of sweet and silly reading that I needed, and it cheered me up immensely.

I am now reading Dead City by James Ponti. Its zombie theme makes it appropriate reading for Halloween week, but it’s much funnier than it is gruesome or scary, which suits me perfectly.
