As my friend pointed out to me a few days ago, my blog had a hack on it. Well, to be more accurate, it had a whole bunch of hacks on it. It has been de-hacked (or so I hope), and it has some fancy new tools to help protect it a little better now. The tools are so good that they locked even me out of the blog this morning. That’s why this blog post is so late.
Today one of the biggest things on my mind is this notion of opening the country back up. Donald Trump and other Republicans are pushing for it. They frame the discussion as concern for our nation’s children, the working class, and individual freedoms, but they’re so callous about the potential death toll that I can’t help but think that their only real concern is their stock portfolios. I get that we can’t stay home forever, and I don’t want to stay home forever. But there a lot of things we need before we go back out, including some really basic information, such as how much immunity people have to the disease once they’ve beaten it and which treatments work best. Donald Trump is always missing half the pieces of the puzzle, so he acts on his gut and makes stupid, uneducated decisions. He’s already botched the situation badly, and the price is being paid in lives. Now is not the time for another disastrous decision.
