Quick Like Lightning

Dear Livia,

You’re our second child, so a lot of your stuff is second-hand. Even some of your songs are. For example, I borrowed “Who’s the Cutest Baby?” from Marshall and changed it to “Who’s the Sweetest Baby?” for you.

But I don’t want you to think that you never got anything of your own. I certainly sing you some Livia-only songs. The one that really stands out is “Fast Moving Baby.” I wrote that one day while you were playing in my office. You were so quick to get into things, I couldn’t take my eyes off you for a second or you’d find something dangerous on which to chew. I started to sing…

She’s a fast moving baby.
Look at that baby go!
She’s a fast moving baby.
Look at that baby go!
She can move so fast,
She can travel to the past.
She’s a fast moving baby.

She’s quick like lightning,
Fast like the rain.
If you catch her once,
She will just do it again.

Cuz she’s a fast moving baby.
Look at that baby go!
She’s a fast moving baby.
Look at that baby go!
Look at that baby go!
Look at that baby go!

You’re much bigger now, but you’re still a fast mover and a quick thinker. I can barely keep up with you. This morning I left you in the dining room for a few minutes while I ran upstairs to get Marshall up. When I came back downstairs, I found you standing on the chair in the dining room, changing the settings on my laptop. You’re only 11 months old and already climbing on the furniture. Wow.

Look at that baby go!

Love,

Mom
